Hair Hair and More Hair

I’m currently carrying out yet another experiment on my hair, just to note I’m not affiliated or have any relationship to the products mentioned in this blog. These are just my personal experiences. I wanted to document this for myself (to keep my brain busy and focused) and also for other people as an honest experience not someone trying to sell something or earing from the companies mentioned. So to note this experiment is completely non bias.

I have curly hair, not the nice beautiful curly hair but the type that is wiry, tangly and majorly frizzy. After years and years of tying my hair back and straightening it until it was fried to a crisp, I decided last year to start trying to embrace my curls and nurture them. So I started following the curly girl method. I had some good success with this however it still hasn’t got my curls to where I want them. I’ve been turning grey since the early age of 18 so now I have more grey then any other colour coming out of my head. I have been dying it for the last 18 years to try and defeat the grey to no success. Also causing massive damage to my hair. I’m not ready to go ‘au natural’ just yet so I’m still currently having it dyed

Now I’ve tried loads and loads of different products over the years however with following curly girl and ditching the silicones I’ve noticed a real difference. My hair isn’t as tangly or as wiry (although it still is it is not as bad as previously). But my actual curl pattern is still not at its best and at times I can look like I’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards. Products that are currently at the top of my favorite list are, Noughty, Cocunat, Cantu and Olaplex.

So I’ve been using olaplex for a while and I haven’t noticed much difference in the condition of my hair. I had put this down to my hair being so damaged and as it is only dead particles anyway there is no way to bring this back to life. BUT I decided to google ways of using Olaplex 3 and I realised that I may just not be using enough for it to have a major effect. I watched some videos, read reviews ect and I came across a blog where someone had trialed olaplex 3 for a whole week. I had already come to the conclusion that I wasn’t using anywhere near enough even though I have fine hair, so I thought what’s the harm in applying it more often. And off started my weeks experiment.

Prior to Olaplex

On Sunday night I put the olaplex 3 in and slept in it over night (this was the night before I realised I wasn’t using enough). Monday morning I had soft hair but it was still very frizzy and wiry looking. I had researched it more on Monday and on Monday night I put at least three times as much in as I usually do.

Monday Morning.

Tuesday morning I had soft hair again, the curl pattern was slightly better but not fantastic. I still had frizzy, dry, nasty bits on the ends and the top layer of my hair. That said I did notice that my hair overall looked better. I slathered more on once I’d finished dance.

Wednesday morning, I’m so excited my curls are more defined and the top layer appears to be transforming. I still have frizz however I’m curly I’m bound to have frizz plus its raining so the humidity is going to have an effect. I am concerned though at washing my hair everyday. My hair is naturally very very dry and in past experience washing it this often is not good for my hair, but we will have to wait and see. Tonight I will be slathering some more on.

Thursday – Holy f*&king s**t my hair is so different this morning. It feels like silk, the curl pattern is defiantly vastly improved, the top layer of my hair which is the most damaged is becoming transformed and is looking so much healthier. Its shinier, bouncier, it doesn’t have great volume however I can work on that. I honestly feel amazing, my roots are the best I think. The ends still have a little way to go so tonight I’m going to concentrate on the mids and ends. I will still apply it all over but I will apply additional cream to the ends. I will also wrap my hair in a bun to keep the ends and mids moist. I can’t wait to see it tomorrow.

Friday – Yesterday, I could not stop looking at and touching my hair. Washing my hair this morning it felt like pure silk. It still has frizz but that’s to be expected as its curly and it’s humid. I’m absolutely in love with my hair, the way it feels, looks ect. I honestly can’t see how it could possibly get better than what I have today.

So after 5 nights of treatment I’m going to stop. I will treat my hair every Sunday night moving forward. I have ordered the Olaplex 0 and will be using that with the number 3 this Sunday, I’ll let you know how it goes. Throughout the week I have used exactly the same products and without weighing them I’ve tried to ensure I have used the same amount. I used roughly half of a small bottle of the Olaplex 3. Overall I’m very happy with the results and would recommend it to anyone.
